PeeWee Callins has been singing and preaching for the Lord since he was just a young boy. Today, Callins is still singing and preaching, only his audience has gotten much bigger. He is the senior pastor of a Florida church, Greater New Hope Anointed Ministries. Callins’ pure, velvety-smooth voice is sure to leave you praising the Lord and wanting more.
Callins’ music career began at the tender age of three when he started playing drums in his grandfather’s church in Plant City. He grew up watching many of his family members play instruments and he just fell into the rhythm along with them. Shortly thereafter, he began playing the keyboard without formal lessons. When PeeWee Callins was just 12 years old, he became the minister of music at his church and felt led to go into the music ministry as an adult full time.
In 1988, Callins began touring locally with his family. They called themselves “Pee Wee and the Heavenly Voices.” Callins’ love for music continued to grow and in 1992 he moved with an uncle to Atlanta to pursue a career in R&B. With a record deal on the table, Callins instead chose to move back home to fulfill family obligations, and it was during this time that God began stirring his heart toward gospel music.
During the 1990’s, Callins toured, recorded, and shared stages with the likes of Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Shirley Caesar, and more, singing traditional, black gospel. In 1994, a special album was recorded entitled “The Family That Prays Together Stays Together” and included sixty of his family members. A turning point came when he listened to an Out of Eden album and felt urged to broaden his style. He called his old friend, Todd Collins, who produced out of Eden. Todd told him about Beatmart Recordings, and even though he was just a week away from embarking into another live gospel recording, Callins felt led to go down this new road. He signed with the new record company and is now living out one of his greatest dreams.
In 2019 Peewee Callins had the opportunity to tour with award-winning Travis Greene , J.J. Hairston, Fred Hammond, Bishop Marvin Sapp, Commissions. PeeWee also had the opportunity to share the stage with Hip-hop legend Common.
PeeWee is married to his wife of 24 years Dr. Tandria Callins. They have three beautiful children Calaydria, Calvin Jr. and Caleb.
